Many school districts in the state need to come up with hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars to cover a deficit in their health insurance risk pool, SchoolCare.

Londonderry School District is facing the largest bill of all the risk pool’s member entities at $2 million.

The risk pool’s board of directors announced that it faces a projected $4.5 million deficit due to “higher-than-expected medical and pharmacy claims” from the past two years, and it needs $300 million from its members to restabilize.

About 80 schools and municipalities are now contractually obligated to bear a share of the deficit, with their portions based on their annual contributions to the pool.
