BRISTOL, Conn. (WTNH) -- The CDC has changed its stance on the COVID-19 vaccine, saying it will leave the choice to get one up to individuals.
The switch to the individual-based decision-making model is a departure from the CDC's recommendation in previous years that everyone six months and older get the COVID vaccine. The CDC adopted this change based on recommendations made by advisors picked by U.S. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
"Informed consent is back," Acting CDC Director Jim O'Neill said after the change was announced. "CDC's 2022 blanket recommendation for perpetual COVID-19 boosters deterred health care providers from talking about the risks and benefits of vaccination for the individual patient or parent. That changes today."
