State Rep. Robert Craven Sr. has resigned his position as chairman of the House Judiciary Committee less than a week after past legal troubles resurfaced and forced him to abandon a campaign for attorney general.
Craven, a North Kingstown Democrat, will serve out his term representing House District 32 until the end of next year, but announced he will not seek reelection. He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2012.
"In the best interests of my family, I have resigned as chair of the House Judiciary Committee," Craven said in an email release. "Through my seven years as chair, I was privileged to shepherd issues like women’s reproductive health, gun safety, and the environment that matter deeply to Rhode Islanders.
