Authorities in Essex County are investigating the circumstances surrounding a crash that left a motorcyclist dead in Newark’s North Ward on Monday night.

The collision happened just before 10:45 p.m. in the 700 block of Mount Prospect Avenue.

Emergency responders arrived to find the rider lying on the ground after being ejected from the motorcycle during a crash with a vehicle.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead shortly after the incident. The driver of the vehicle was not reported injured.

Officials have not yet released the victim’s identity, and the investigation into what caused the crash remains ongoing.
