Panic spread through a riverside village in Odisha’s Jajpur district on Monday after a crocodile dragged a woman into the Kharasrota river. The incident occurred near Kantia under Bodu panchayat in Bari block when the victim, identified as 55-year-old Saudamini Mahala, wife of Sukadev Mahala, had gone to the river to wash clothes.

A video circulating locally shows the reptile dragging the woman downstream as shocked villagers shout helplessly from a nearby bridge. Despite their cries for help, no one could reach her in time.

Eyewitnesses said the crocodile suddenly lunged at her and pulled her into the water before anyone could react. Locals rushed to the spot but were unable to rescue her from the reptile’s grip.
