Bharatiya Janata Party MP Khagen Murmu, who was attacked by a mob during a visit to the flood-hit areas of West Bengal, is likely to undergo surgical intervention to treat the serious facial injuries.

The MP is still in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a Siliguri hospital.

"Murmu has sustained serious facial injuries, including a fractured bone below the eye. He is currently undergoing treatment in the ICU. We are evaluating his condition from time to time and found him to be stable," a senior official of the hospital told PTI news agency.

"The MP may undergo a surgical intervention to treat the injuries. Our doctors are diagnosing it”.

Along with Murmu, MLA Sankar Ghosh has also been injured in the attack. The duo were part of a team of BJP leaders who had gone to the disaster-hit Doo
