LORAIN COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO) - A 79-year-old Avon Lake husband pleaded guilty Monday in Lorain County Court of Common Pleas Monday to attacking his wife.

Woodie Francis entered a guilty plea on the day his jury trial was scheduled to begin in front of Judge Christopher Rothgery.

In December 2024, Francis was indicted on the charges of attempted murder and felonious assault.

Francis attacked his 70-year-old wife while she was sitting in a recliner at their Avon Lake home on Wedgewood Drive on Dec. 3, 2024.

Avon Lake police responded to the couple’s home after Francis allegedly called at 8:54 p.m. and admitted to stabbing his wife and saying she needed help.
