After an exercise session filled with a lot of planks and crunches, you may notice your abdomen feels sore. Sometimes exercise can cause slight discomfort because you're challenging your muscles.

“First of all, try not to judge yourself. Don’t think, ‘Oh my gosh, I’m so weak,’ or, ‘What’s wrong with me?’” Stephanie Mansour, TODAY contributor and personal trainer for the Start TODAY app, previously told TODAY.com. “If something doesn’t feel right, know that you can be your own personal trainer and expert in your body. Take things down a notch: Don’t go so low in a squat, do less weight, or go on a walk or do your cardio for less time.”

But there are certain types of pain that Mansour said indicate that you’ve really injured yourself while exercising.
