CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WV News) — Ahead of flu season, the West Virginia Department of Health has updated guidelines surrounding flu and respiratory virus vaccines.

The West Virginia Department of Health recommends the 2025-26 flu vaccine for everyone 6 months and older, except those with a contraindication, such as a severe allergic reaction to the vaccine or its ingredients.

"That includes children, pregnant individuals and adults. So pretty much everyone who wants a flu shot can get one under that guideline," said Dr. Chad Bundy, director of the Harrison County Health Department.

"The outlier is the high-dose recombinant, or a juvenile flu vaccine, high-dose vaccine, is preferred for people ages 65 and older and for some high-risk adults. So the bottom line is if you want a flu vaccine,
