BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Newly unsealed court documents have revealed the motive behind why the FBI raided a former Indiana University professor earlier this year — along with the 42 items that were seized.

XiaoFeng Wang was fired from IU on March 28, the same day his Bloomington and Carmel homes were raided by the FBI. According to court documents, on this day, some of the items authorities seized included:

Three phones

Two laptops

Two hard drives

SD card

IDs

Passports

Flight tickets

Boarding pass

Immigration documents

Various paperwork, including shredded paperwork

Various receipts

Notebooks

According to court documents, the FBI was looking into suspected research funding fraud .
