ST. LOUIS — The Missouri Attorney General says her office has enough evidence to remove Sheriff Alfred Montgomery from office without even going to trial, and she's asking a judge to do it.

The document , which Attorney General Catherine Hanaway's office said it filed Tuesday, also outlines how one of his sergeants left work at around 2:45 p.m. on "countless" occasions, in uniform and driving department vehicles, to retrieve Montgomery's children from school.

No records were kept on the sergeant's hours or which vehicles she drove, the filing says.

But the pickups amounted to an abuse of public resources, meriting his removal from office without a trial, the filing says.
