Louisiana native Addison Rae has had a huge year, from her viral TikTok dances to singing on stage with Lana Del Rey.
Born in Lafayette and growing up in Shreveport before going to LSU for a year, the "Diet Pepsi" singer has deep Louisiana roots and was recently compared to pop star Britney Spears, who hails from Kentwood.
But one thing fans, journalists and music critics have noticed is that Rae does not usually speak with a southern or Cajun drawl.
In a video posted on W Magazine, which featured Rae on its cover Monday , the "Headphones On" star was asked why she doesn't have a Louisiana accent.
"I have a southern accent when I'm drunk." Rae said. "I think it's funny because I have phrases that I say like 'boutta,' like 'Oh are we boutta go there.'"
