Ferris State University recently declined to take part in a Mecosta County proposal to erect a statue of right-wing influencer Charlie Kirk on campus, citing longstanding school policy about such honors.
Following the Sept. 10 assassination of the conservative activist, the Mecosta County Board of Commissioners voted to reach out to FSU President Bill Pink in a Sept. 19 letter seeking to work together to erect a statue honoring Kirk that would be placed on the Big Rapids university's campus.
Pink, however, responded in a Sept. 26 letter saying FSU would not install a statue dedicated to Kirk on its campus because university policy only allows for statues of people who left a significant and direct impact on the school.
