Sean "Diddy" Combs' defense team is pushing him to move to a New Jersey prison.
Lawyers for the music mogul, who was sentenced to over four years in prison earlier this month after being convicted on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution following a monthslong federal sex crimes trial, are requesting he serve his time at FCI Fort Dix, a low-security federal prison in central New Jersey.
According to documents reviewed by USA TODAY, Combs' defense attorney Teny Geragos sent a letter to Judge Arun Subramanian Oct. 6, requesting that Combs serve his time at Fort Dix "in order to address drug abuse issues and to maximize family visitation and rehabilitative efforts."
Combs is currently being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York, where he has been since his September 2024 arrest, despite repeated attempts at bail.
The Oct. 3 sentencing, which delivered a longer jail time than his legal team had hoped for, capped off a two-month trial that unearthed the rapper's decades-long history of alleged abuse. In the end, a 12-person jury found Combs guilty of the lesser counts but acquitted the 55-year-old of the top charges of racketeering and sex trafficking. Combs maintained his innocence and pleaded not guilty to the five counts brought against him.
Now, Geragos is requesting a move across state lines "for RDAP purposes," referring to a Residential Drug Abuse Program, along with "any other available educational and occupational programs."
The request comes amid news that the music mogul's legal team asked President Donald Trump for a pardon following his sentencing.
