A person was struck by a trash truck in Lowell, Massachusetts, on Tuesday, according to the company that employs the driver.

Win Waste Innovation confirmed in a statement that one of their drivers was involved in the crash. The driver was backing down an alley at the time.

The person's condition was not immediately clear.

"Safety remains our highest priority, and based on our initial investigation, our driver was following all safety protocols and operating a vehicle equipped with an audible reverse warning system. While this was a rare and unforeseen incident, we are conducting a thorough internal review to ensure we continue to operate at the highest safety standards," a company spokesperson told NBC10 Boston.
