The Yuma Fire Department is partnering with the National Fire Protection Association to promote fire safety during Fire Prevention Week, observed this year with the campaign theme “Charge into Fire Safety: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home.”

The campaign, running for more than a century under NFPA’s leadership, focuses this year on educating the public about the safe use of lithium-ion batteries, which power many everyday devices such as smartphones, laptops, e-bikes, power tools and toys.

To mark the occasion, the Yuma Fire Department will host a Fire Prevention Week community event on Tuesday, Oct. 7, at 6 p.m. in the Yuma City Hall Council Chambers, located at 1 City Plaza.
