METROPOLIS, Ill. (WSIL) -- The Metropolis Fire Department has issued a warning about a potential phone scam targeting local residents.

A resident reported receiving a call from someone claiming to sell Medicaid and other insurance services. The phone number used connected directly to the Metropolis Fire Department when dialed back.

The fire department clarified that they are not involved in insurance sales and do not make unsolicited calls asking for personal or financial information.

Residents are urged to be cautious of unexpected calls requesting sensitive details. It is advised not to share Social Security numbers, financial information, or insurance details unless the caller's identity is confirmed.
