SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WSIL) -- The Fort Massac Encampment will return to Fort Massac State Park in Metropolis on October 18 and 19. This event, hosted by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and sponsored by the Greater Metropolis Convention and Visitors Bureau, has been a staple in southern Illinois for 51 years.
The festival offers a glimpse into 18th and early 19th-century life at Fort Massac, a historic frontier outpost. It will feature military reenactors and participants in period clothing portraying explorers, traders, settlers, and soldiers.
"Posting of the Colours" ceremonies will open the event at 10 a.m. each day. Mock military battles and tactical demonstrations will follow at 3 p.m. both afternoons.
Visitors can enjoy family activities, musical entertainment, and craft
