NEW YORK — Dan Muse was coy Monday when asked about his starting goalie for the season opener. Turns out the Penguins coach had a surprise up his sleeve.
Arturs Silovs will start in goal Tuesday against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden, Muse announced at the morning skate. Tristan Jarry will back him up.
Jarry had started the previous five season openers for the Penguins, and after the former All-Star goalie got the start in the preseason finale on Friday, it appeared Muse and the Penguins were lining things up for Jarry to play here Tuesday night.
Instead, it will be Silovs between the pipes against the Rangers, in a game that will be broadcast nationally on ESPN. The scheduled start time for the game is 8 p.m.
The Penguins acquired Silovs in July from the Vancouver Canuc
