Executions continue a cycle of violence and must end, a group of advocates for abolishing the death penalty said during a news conference Tuesday, Oct. 7, on the steps of the Mississippi Supreme Court in Jackson.
The advocates' message called on justices and lawmakers to halt the scheduled execution of 59-year-old death row inmate Charles Crawford .
Death Row Spiritual Advisor Rev. Dr. Jeff Hood of Little Rock, Arkansas, is co-founder of the Execution Intervention Project and traveled to Jackson as a representative of the Clergy United Against the Death Penalty .
Hood spoke on the far-reaching impact of the death penalty, not only on those executed but also on everyone present in the process — prison guards, family members and other witnesses.
Hood described it as "disturbing"
