HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - As we mark the first week in the federal government shutdown, central Nebraska schools are starting to advise parents that the impacts could hit close to home.

Christopher Prososki made a statement on the Hastings Public Schools’ Facebook Page on Tuesday explaining the state of the shutdown to parents who are concerned about how it impacts their children.

“Only about 8% of our revenue comes from the federal government,” Prososki wrote. “Those dollars are largely designated for specific programs such as Title I, Special Education, and free and reduced-price meals. If the shutdown continues for several weeks, we could begin to feel its effects more directly.”

If the shutdown lingers then, Prososki warns, the effects of the shutdown could start to impact education.
