After UCLA started its season with an ugly 0-4 record, the program fired its head coach and replaced both the offensive and defensive coordinators. It was hardly a recipe for an upset of the former No. 7 team in the country.

But that’s exactly what happened, as the Bruins toppled Penn State , 42-37, in one of the most shocking upsets in college football history. And the star of the show has been appropriately awarded.

UCLA quarterback Nico Iamaleava took home both national and conference player of the week awards for his performance .

He was named the National Player of the Week by the Walter Camp Award, the Maxwell Award and the Associated Press. He was also named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week and the Dave O’Brien Award Quarterback of the Week.
