DUNLAP, Ill. – Dunlap Community Unit School District 323 is setting the stage for a new elementary school building.
25 News reports a special use permit to build the school in a single-family residential district on North Pacific was recently approved by Peoria’s Planning and Zoning Committee.
Superintendent Scott Dearman says the plans call for a two-story, more than 80,000-square foot building to accommodate up to 740 students. He says the district only plans to have 600 students in the building, but the new building will provide space for anticipated growth.
The district currently has around 4,800 students, and anticipates that to grow to about 5,100 over the next ten years.
Dearman says the new building will eventually replace Wilder-Waite Elementary.
