MANTEO, N.C. (WITN) - A Manteo police officer is facing no charges after he shot and killed a woman who had called 911 about a man at her house.

District Attorney Jeff Cruden says Officer T.P. Grogran took every step possible to avoid having to use deadly force back last Thursday.

Killed was 49-year-old Denny Winslow, who had called 911 twice in three days about a man at her home on Mother Vineyard Road.

The district attorney says the first call was investigated but unsubstantiated. On October 2nd, the D.A. says Grogran’s body camera video showed the woman confronting the officer in the driveway, holding a large knife. Despite the officer backing up and repeatedly telling Winslow to drop the knife, the woman continued to advance toward the officer.
