VESTAL, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) - Tuesday marks the second anniversary of one of the worst days in Israel's history, the Hamas terrorist attacks on October 7. For Jews, efforts to memorialize the tragedy are complicated by a major religious holiday.
Tuesday is also the Jewish holiday Sukkot and members of Binghamton University Chabad spent the day in the sukkah.
A sukkah is a hut-like structure that Jewish people lived in during the 40 years of travel through the wilderness after being freed from Egypt.
Sukkot is a weeklong holiday that celebrates the gathering of the harvest and the sheltering of the Israelites.
With today being October 7, police presence was outside of the sukkah to ensure the safety of students.
Many Jewish students say it is disheartening to have the need for protection
