VESTAL, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) - Some Vestal residents are crying foul after being assessed late fees on school tax bills they never received.

According to a post on the Vestal Central School District website, the Town of Vestal, which handles tax collection for the district, mailed out the annual bills on August 29, following normal protocols. However, according to Town Supervisor Maria Sexton, hundreds of residents never got them in the mail.

Sexton says the problem appears to have been isolated to specific neighborhoods in the town. She says when the problem was discovered in mid-September, the town started a campaign to alert taxpayers and provide them with alternate ways to pay their bills.

Sexton says the return rate this year was actually higher than last year.
