AGUILAR, Colo. (KKTV) - The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) announced on Tuesday that former Town Clerk 47-year-old Tyra Marie Avila is facing multiple felony charges following an investigation into the misuse of public funds.

Investigators said the public funds were intended for the Town of Aguilar’s water project.

According to CBI, Avila served as the Town Administrator, Clerk and Treasurer in Aguilar, in Las Animas County, for 17 years before resigning in September 2024.

They said she is accused of diverting more than $26,000 in public funds to her personal bank accounts.
