A federal grand jury indicted a Tennessee police officer after he allegedly assaulted his estranged girlfriend, trashed her belongings and threatened to kill her — all while he was on duty.

Alan James Greenman, then a patrolman for the Clarksville Police Department, stands accused of kidnapping , stalking and deprivation of rights in connection with the Aug. 20 incident. According to a probable cause affidavit , the 38-year-old Greenman began his shift just after 5:30 a.m. that day and entered his girlfriend's apartment complex several times by using a gate code for the utility company, which is not accessible to the general public.
