San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria has named his pick to fill the city's vacant chief financial officer position, his office announced Tuesday.

Rolando Charvel is the mayor's nominee to become the city's top financier, pending approval by the San Diego City Council.

Charvel previously served as CFO from 2017-2020 before being succeeded by Matthew Vespi during the COVID pandemic. Vespi was hired as the Port of San Diego's chief administrative officer last month, leaving the CFO seat vacant.

Charvel currently serves as the city's director of finance and city comptroller and has 26 years of experience in public finance.
