MONROE, La. (KNOE) - Lobular breast cancer is a subtype of breast cancer that researchers say is understudied.
It’s a lesser-known breast cancer that develops in a patient’s milk-producing glands, and cases of lobular breast cancer are on the rise in the U.S.
Rebecca Siegel, Report’s Senior Author with the American Cancer Society, said most people don’t know about lobular breast cancer -- possibly because of its short-term prognosis. However, she said there is a critical need for more research into the disease.
“We need to distinguish this cancer in clinical trials so that we can find more effective treatments, because incidence rates are actually increasing quite steeply, more steeply than for other types of breast cancer,” Siegel said.
