CLEVELAND — Nearly a dozen witnesses took the stand Tuesday in the trial of Bionca Ellis , the woman accused of fatally stabbing 3-year-old Julian Wood and injuring his mother outside a Giant Eagle grocery store in North Olmsted last June.
After spending months in a state mental health facility, Ellis was ruled competent to stand trial earlier this year. She has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity .
In court Tuesday, jurors heard from 11 total witnesses, including police officers, a store manager, nurses, shoppers, and a Giant Eagle employee. The witnesses said they either saw Ellis before the stabbing, witnessed the attack, or arrived moments after it happened.
