ELLSWORTH — Elected officials and community leaders gathered in Ellsworth on Tuesday to celebrate the ribbon-cutting of a new 5.9 megawatt community solar farm called Ellsworth Renewable.

The site, located on Bucksport Road, features more than 10,200 solar panels spread across 26 acres of land.

NextAmp leaders said the project has been more than four years in the making and will provide electricity to about 700 homes, helping customers save around 15 percent on their monthly electric bills.

Keith Hevenor, NextAmp communications manager, said the benefits extend beyond Ellsworth residents.
