PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, Md. — Adrienne Burch says saying goodbye to a 35-year-long career with the federal government was devastating, but on Sept 30, that’s what she had to do, just two years shy of retirement.
“I’m not able to celebrate, ‘oh hey, you’re retired,’ because I wasn’t able to plan for retirement,” she said. “There was no party, no real joy, because I was forced to do it.”
Burch is one of the thousands of federal workers living in Prince George’s County, many of whom lost their jobs since President Trump re-entered the White House in January.
On Tuesday, the County Council approved an aid package to help bring some relief.
“We are with you. We wish we could do more,” Councilmember Wala Blegay told federal workers who watched the vote.
