The government say that the trade visit to India this week will emphasise the benefits of the UK-India trade deal for Scottish businesses and will grow the Scottish economy by £190 million a year.
The Prime Minister will lead the trade mission along with the Scotch Whisky Association and producers, but while the government said that whisky is “a big winner” in the deal with India, there are opportunities for other Scottish products such as shortbread and Irn-Bru. Import tariffs on whisky bought by India are set to be cut, which the government say will increase sales by £1 billion with an expected 1,000 new jobs created.
