An Aiken man died Tuesday afternoon in an Augusta hospital, five days after being struck by a car while crossing a road.

Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables hasn't yet released the name of the deceased, but noted in an email that it was a male victim who died at about 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Ables noted that the man was crossing Hampton Avenue near Fairfield Street in Aiken at about 8 p.m. Oct. 2, when he was struck by a 2008 Chevrolet Cruz. He was taken to Wellstar MCG, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The man's death is part of an ongoing investigation, noted Ables.

In an unrelated fatal wreck, a man died at Wellstar MCG at about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday after hitting a logging truck in Aiken County earlier in the day.
