FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — A detention officer at the Fulton County Jail was injured Tuesday morning by an inmate in a shank attack, the sheriff's office said.

The detention officer was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital and is expected to make a full recovery, while the inmate is facing charges related to the attack.

No identifying information about either the detention officer or inmate was available. It's unclear what the inmate is currently incarcerated for.

The sheriff's office, in a statement, said the incident "underscores the unsafe and deteriorating conditions within the Fulton County Jail that continue to pose risks to both our team and those in our custody."

"Inmates are able to fashion makeshift weapons from the very materials of the aging facility, creating ongoing safety risks,"
