PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- Melissa Berntsen had no idea Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem was coming to Portland Tuesday. Noem's visit completely disrupted Berntsen's day.
"I've had to adjust to this whole thing," said Berntsen, who lives at Gray's Landing directly across the street from the ICE facility in South Portland. "You know, other people will have to go to work. I don't know how they're doing it. It's nice to have a streetcar right there so that you're able to do that, but this is the first time they've actually had to block off the, driveway."
Residents at Gray's Landing have wondered throughout the day when they can leave their building by car. They said there was no notice of this dignitary visit and no indication of how long it would last.
