With thousands of furloughed federal workers not knowing when they’ll get their next paycheck, people with health issues are facing some tough choices as they try to pay their mounting medical bills.

One furloughed federal worker in Prince George’s County is proposing a bill that would give guaranteed paychecks to federal workers on Family and Medical Leave (FMLA) during a shutdown.

Angela O'Neal works as a program manager for the U.S. Navy but was on medical leave when the shutdown began. O’Neal has diabetic neuropathy, which causes tingling and burning in her legs. But now that she’s not getting a paycheck, she can’t afford all her doctor’s visits.
