HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A man shot by officers outside Queen’s Medical Center has been identified.

On Tuesday, the Honolulu Medical Examiner said Sonny Siofele, 50, died from a gunshot wound to the chest.

The death was ruled a homicide.

Honolulu police said the shooting occurred on Thursday, Oct. 2, at around 10:20 a.m.

Officers responded to a report of a man expressing suicidal thoughts and stated that he had a firearm, said investigators.

Police said Siofele pointed a firearm at responding officers, prompting them to open fire.

Siofele was taken to Queen’s, where he was pronounced dead.
