FERRYVILLE, Wis. (WXOW) – A new factor has been added to the construction of the Wisconsin 82/Iowa 9 Mississippi River Bridge—better known as the Black Hawk Bridge.

The bridge connects Crawford County, Wisconsin, to Lansing, Iowa. In early May, the bridge's monitoring systems detected movement that exceeded its safety threshold.

The Iowa and Wisconsin Departments of Transportation then determined that future construction stages on the new bridge pose a risk to the safety of the existing bridge.

Black Hawk Bridge to close this fall for demolition

The Black Hawk Bridge will close to traffic at 7:00 a.m. on Monday, October 20 as crews begin removing the old structure. This step is necessary so construction on the new bridge can stay on schedule for a planned opening in the spring of 202
