Jefferson Academy’s Teague Murrey and Dawson’s Jonah Lodge both exceeded their postseason rankings, finishing fifth and 10th at the 2A golf tournament at Pueblo’s Elmwood Golf Course on Tuesday.
Murrey was ranked 2A No. 7 as part of iWanamaker’s new rankings system that decided each of the classification’s state fields. Lodge was 20th.
In previous years, golfers made the state tournament based on how they fared at a regional tournament. But that changed this fall as the site ranked golfers based off their five best tournaments of the season.
The consensus from coaches asked by BoCoPreps was that the new system is better but still needed tweaks.
In 2A, Murrey shot a two-day score of 7-over-par 147 to lead the Jaguars to a fifth-place finish (473), 21 shots back of winner Frontier Academ
