The Steelton-Highspire School District has announced that all in-person classes will be canceled on Wednesday, Oct. 8, after a shooting killed one and injured another on Tuesday afternoon .

“Due to the tragic incident in the community earlier today and the late dismissal of students and staff, tomorrow will be a Flexible Instruction Day. Students and staff should not report to school buildings,” a statement on the school district’s website said.

In-person classes will resume on Thursday, Oct. 9.

Flexible Instruction Days allow students to continue learning from home through live, online instruction and assignments.

The school district went under a lockdown as police responded to the incident.
