U.S. tech giant Amazon plans to invest 1 billion euros ($1.16 billion) in Belgium from 2025 to 2027, Belgian business newspaper L’ Echo reported on Wednesday.

The company stated that it will develop infrastructure and strengthen its partnership with Belgian mail operator Bpost and local small- and medium-sized enterprises, according to the newspaper.

Amazon aims to enhance its supply chains in Belgium to offer same-day delivery, L’Echo said, quoting Eva Faict, Amazon’s head for Belgium and the Netherlands.

Amazon currently employs approximately 400 people in Belgium and has invested around 800 million euros over the past decade, according to L’Echo.

Spokespeople for Amazon did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
