Political tension is running high in Rayagada Municipality after Biju Janata Dal (BJD) launched a vigorous exercise to retain its hold over the Vice-Chairperson post ahead of a crucial no-confidence vote.

According to sources, BJD Supremo and former Odisha Chief Minister (CM) Naveen Patnaik has personally intervened in the matter, issuing a letter with strict instructions to all party councillors. Naveen has directed BJD councillors to vote against the no-confidence motion scheduled for tomorrow.

The former Chief Minister has reportedly warned that any councillor defying the party whip will face disciplinary action. Party leader Jagannath Saraka has been assigned the responsibility of handing over the official notice containing these directions to all councillors.
