A man has been shot dead in what police are describing as a “brazen” and “targeted” daylight attack in Sydney’s north-west.

Emergency services were called to Annaluke Street, Riverstone, north of The Ponds, following reports of a shooting about 6pm on Wednesday evening.

Officers from the Riverstone Police Area Command attended to a man believed to be in his 30s with gunshot wounds above his torso. He was treated by paramedics, who were unable to revive him, and he died at the scene.

Police began establishing a crime scene when, about 15 minutes later, they were called to nearby Riverstone Road, Riverstone, after reports of a car fire.

NSW Fire and Rescue extinguished the blaze, but the vehicle was destroyed. Firefighters were then called to a third car fire on Mattias Street, Riverston
