New Delhi: On Monday, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said that in the next four to six months, the electric vehicle (EV) and petrol-powered vehicle prices in India will be the same. Present at the 20th FICCI Higher Education Summit 2025, Gadkari said India’s heavy dependence on fossil fuels is both an economic strain and an environmental challenge, noting that the country spends Rs 22 trillion annually on fuel imports.
After the implementation of the GST 2.0 reform, some petrol vehicles have already come up with price cuts. While some car manufacturers, such as Tata and Hyundai, make identical models for their petrol-to-EV variant of the car. However, if we take a look at the price of EVs, they are much more expensive as compared to their sibling petrol models.
