A “low cost of living” is an argument used in favor of Oklahoma City by its boosters for the past half-century and was again heralded by the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber in September, but when it comes to actual housing costs , the numbers are telling a different story.
Citing data from the Council for Community and Economic Research, the chamber released a news release after the latest study showing Oklahoma City is first in affordability among all U.S. cities with a population over 500,000.
But other studies and reports reviewed by The Oklahoman show finding an affordable apartment to rent or a home to buy in a safe neighborhood is increasingly out of reach for those of low to moderate means.
