Horrific Domestic Violence Case in South Delhi
In a shocking incident of domestic violence, a woman in South Delhi allegedly poured boiling oil on her husband while he was asleep. The incident occurred in the early hours of October 3 in Madangir, where 28-year-old Dinesh Kumar, a pharmaceutical worker, suffered severe burns and was rushed to Safdarjung Hospital in critical condition.
According to the FIR filed at Ambedkar Nagar Police Station, Dinesh was asleep when his wife, Sadhna, attacked him around 3 am. He reported that he felt a sudden, intense burning sensation and saw his wife pouring boiling oil on his torso and face. In addition to the oil, she also sprinkled red chilli powder on his burns. Dinesh recalled her threatening him, saying, "Agar shor machaya to aur garam tel daal doongi" (if you shout, I will pour more oil on you).
The couple's eight-year-old daughter was present during the incident. Neighbours were alerted by Dinesh's screams and rushed to help. Anjali, a neighbour, described how her father attempted to enter the locked apartment. When they finally got inside, they found Dinesh in agony and Sadhna hiding. Although she claimed she was taking him to the hospital, she initially headed in the wrong direction. Anjali's father intervened, arranged for an auto, and took Dinesh to the hospital.
Dinesh was initially treated at a nearby facility but was later referred to Safdarjung Hospital due to the severity of his injuries, which were classified as "dangerous scald burns". The couple has been married for eight years, but their relationship has been troubled. Dinesh mentioned that Sadhna had previously filed a complaint with the Crime Against Women (CAW) Cell, which was resolved through a compromise.
Sadhna has been charged under several sections of the law, including those related to causing grievous hurt with dangerous means. However, no arrests have been made yet, and the police are continuing their investigation. They plan to record the statement of the couple's daughter to gather more information about the incident. The police noted that there had been ongoing disputes between the couple, with previous complaints filed against Dinesh as well.
