A huge fire at Luton Airport , which destroyed a multi-storey car park and around 1,500 vehicles inside, was caused by a diesel-powered vehicle, according to officials. The blaze at the Bedfordshire site began around 9pm last night, causing transport mayhem for hundreds of passengers, including Scots trying to get home .
A team of more than 100 firefighters from 15 battled the inferno at its peak. Vehicles could be seen being engulfed and destroyed by huge flames and plumes of smoke, as the blaze tore through the newly-built car park, in footage posted on social media .
Five people - four firefighters and an airport staff member - were taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation, and another firefighter was treated at the scene. The blaze has been extinguish
