NORRISTOWN — Something special is coming to Norristown as work gets underway to transform a railway relic into a thriving community space in the Montgomery County seat.

Elected officials broke ground on a $4.7 million Trail Junction Center project Tuesday at the Norristown Freight Station. A major makeover is planned for the aged structure that sits along Lafayette Street and backs up to the Schuylkill River Trail. With construction expected to wrap up by the end of 2026, per a Montgomery County spokesperson, it’s something both local and county officials hope will be the catalyst to spur further development.
